I can't recall my own number. Not like I call myself that often
When I was a kid I knew about a couple dozen of my friends' phone numbers but nowadays I can't even think of one cuz I never dial as they're all programmed into my phone.

Off the top of your head, how many of your friends' phone numbers do you know?

Class warefare has been an ongoing popular phrase to toss around in recent times. However, it seems limited as it's largely only being used in one particular direction. The rich want their taxes cut while the not so rich they'd rather pay more taxes. The rich accuse class warfare to any who tell them this is wrong, or suggests that they need to pay more taxes as they can afford it.

What seems to be missed, the reversal, leads to my question: Isn't it also class warfare when the rich expect to be more exempt from paying taxes than those that don't have as much money as they? To have the not so rich and poor pay more than the rich, I mean.

Asking for a friend
Similar to the 'Kiss the Bride' tradition, is not the kissing under the mistletoe XMAS tradition appropriate as it only happens that one time, in this case once a year, despite any given relationship status?

Supposedly tofu comes from beans but that's just what THEY want you to think.

Where do you think tofu actually comes from?

Everybody has that one question. Something they always hoped someone would ask them because they have the perfect answer prepared for it.

What's the question you always wanted somebody to ask you?

given the disturbing 1st question, you can skip it for the 2nd if you like
1) If you could choose one of your friends, based on the criteria they're the only available food you'll have, who among them would help you survive the longest?

2) Livejournal was essentially down for 5 days last weekend and it's still a bit quirky now. Whatever did you do with all of that time you'd normally spend here?

Customizing Opera Mini/Mobile for Blackberry
I recently downloaded the Opera browser to my Blackberry Pearl 8110 phone. It comes with a handful of pre-loaded websites (Facebook, New York Times, etc). Does anyone know if you can remove one of these sites? I will never use the New York Times application and wouldn't mind replacing it. Is this possible?

Voice Recognition Software for Macs?
Does anyone know about using voice recognition software for a Mac? I'm totally confused. Apparently Macs come with some installed (?) but it's kind of crappy, and Dragon Naturally Speaking now powers a new software called MacSpeech Dictate which might be better. It's gotten kind of crappy reviews, though. I'm not sure what to do. ANY experiences, tips, or info would be quite welcome as I'm having an RSI flare-up that's making me wish I could detach my arms. It's time for me to learn speech recognition software.

I wasn't sure whether to post this on my own journal or here. this place has been so quiet lately...
when you see "you stole my icon! that's my icon! at least credit me! thief!" are you ever like, who the fuck cares? can someone explain to me why it matters? even if you spent 10 hours handcrafting it--it's an LJ icon!

i get mixed up in a lot of silly LJ etiquette stuff but that is something i don't understand.
ps: i stole this icon.

how do you waterproof boots that are not all-leather? i just got a new pair of hunting boots that are leather and cordura nylon, and i'm not sure what to treat them with. i've only ever owned all-leather boots before, so i know how to care for those, but i don't know about the nylon portion. the manufacturer offers no information. can i just leave it alone? nikwax? sno-seal seems like a bad idea. any advice?

i have a 15" apple powerbook G4, circa 2004, and i am trying to clean beneath the keys. on previous mac laptops, there was always some sort of tab you could click to lift out the entire keyboard, but this one does not have that. i have scoured the apple website, but all their customer-installable parts articles deal with the model the immediately preceded mine. does anyone know how i can get the keyboard out or clean under the keys other than using compressed air?

korean cooking?
does anyone know what is in the chili paste i often encounter in korean hot dishes? i believe it is called gochujang. it is similar to sriracha, but i think there's something sweeter in it. i am thinking specifically of a dish that involves those super-thick rolled up rice noodles, but it's in a lot of things. what can i combine to fudge it at home?

Pronouncing Irish words in English
Dear Internet,

How do you pronounce the word "Síscéal"? I have been told that it is the Irish word for fairy tale. However, a standard Google search tells me nothing about how to actually say the word.
